Alston, Charles:

(1907-177) The first African-American supervisor of a division within the Federal Arts Project. Alston grew up during the Negro Renaissance and learned from the many leaders, including Alain Locke. He did numerous works of art though mural and smaller paintings. He illustrated a number of books for famous writers like Langston Hughes and covers to sheet music for famous musicians like Duke Ellington. He was greatly influenced by Diego Rivera.
