Thomas Gross Jr, "Chest-on-Chest" wood, 1805-10.Thomas Gross Jr.
(d.1839) African American cabinet maker who lived and worked out of Philadelphia and learned his trade fomr his father, Thomas Gross Sr. He was the first African American to have signed their work. Gross' work shows the changes from the more intricate detail to the refined classicism of the time.
