National Association for the Advancment of Colored People (NAACP):

After the convening of the Niagara Movement in Boston in 1907, several gathered, including Jane Addams, Ida B. Wells, W.E.B. DuBois, and others to plan and create an organization dedicated to equality, desegregation, and the enforcement of the 14th and 15th amendments. The NAACP was established in May of 1910.

Controversy surrounded the presence of DuBois since he was known to be a radical figure. This made many nervous about the NAACP, but the organization gre quickly and by 1921 there were over 400 local organizations throughout the United States.
