(1890-1973) Artist during the Harlem Renaissance, Hayden painted scenes of African American life in an expressionistic style, showing the life and feeling at the time. Before Great Depression, Hayden worked in Paris amongst other great black artists in the New Negro Colony. When he returned he painted scenes of African American folk life in Harlem and was employed by the WPA.
